We'd love to hear from you!!!!

We've had a blast setting up this blog, and we're hoping that readers find it engaging enough to want to comment. (it's SO much more fun to read what other people have to say!!!)

So...here's the question: What's the wackiest place you've tried to knit??

I'll start the ball rolling. This summer, we took the family to a Red Sox game (you can never take New England out of New Englanders...) While my husband scurried around-alright "scurry" isn't exactly a word I normally use with him but there was a great sense of anticipation - anyway, while he scurried around making sure everyone had the appropriate amount of Red Sox attire, my concerns lay more with which knitting project to bring for the 4+ hour game. Mike was more than a little horrified when I asked if Fenway security would let me in with scissors. While he has tolerated, mostly without comment, my knitting in theatres, youth sporting events, and all the obvious places like planes, trains, school openhouses..., he seemed genuinely incredulous that I would not be 100% riveted by watching men throwing a ball at a stick. Besides, he said, "fans can be really really mean."

Well I took the knitting, security didn't even blink, and I hurriedly shoved the bag under my seat while I scoped out our neighbors. And honestly, we did have AWESOME seats behind the dugout which held my attention for about 15 minutes. But I was worried...especially about the shrieking woman behind me with the beer.

After a while, Mike leaned over to whisper that I could probably get out my project - these people seemed pretty nice. I was still worried about the beer-drinking-shrieker behind me - there was SO much wool in my bag. Does beer ever really come out of cashmere??

Finally I did brave it, the lighting was EXCELLENT after all. And the picture here, while having no real relevance to knitting, is to remind me of how, in a stadium filled with angst ridden fans (they lost), I alone remained calm.

My knitting was on my lap while I took this of the girls

Thanks for reading. Looking forward to what YOU have to say!!!
Yours in yarn,
Claire

Here in Seattle, and in some other cities too, we have "Stitch 'n Pitch" events where a bunch of knitters all go to a baseball game together!

It’s a great way to spend time with your sports-crazed partner, meet other knitters, and there’s plenty of space to spread out your yarn. Plus, who doesn’t like to knit and drink beer?

I knit during my yearly gyno exam. That was strange. I thought about taking a picture to blog it, but then thought better.

I bring my knitting when I go out to a bar. Also have knit while sitting on the toilet.

The strangest place I have knitted was in the dentist's chair. While getting a filling.

I can't believe this! I was gonna ask this question on my blog! I guess when you have a good idea, you better move on it, or someone else will think it up before long. =) The strangest place I have knitted is in the bathtub. Yes, really. It's not easy. You don't want to get your knitting wet, so you have to lean over the side. Very uncomfortable. And in a porcelain tub, very cold on the girls, which got smashed against the side... I also regularly knit while, um.. Well, you know... sitting on the throne, so to speak?

The strangest? A football game last year. In the rain! I just kept my hat-in-progress under my big rain poncho.

I think the weirdest place I've ever knit is during a job orientation session. There were only three of us being trained, and we had finished the group portion, and were told to "talk amongst yourselves" while we individually filled out paperwork with the manager.
I pulled out a sock I had in my bag...
The manager was - incredulous. Though understanding (I'm still working there!). And I protested, of course, that he had to have known it would happen, it's on my resume.

The strangest places I have knit are at the zoo and at a children's museum.

Although I knit through several college courses and lectures, I was, amazingly, asked to put my knitting away during one of the most BORING inservices a few years ago at a really horrible private school I worked at! HMPH!

But the strangest place I have ever knit was at the Redskins/Dallas game two weeks ago. I knit for only as long as it took to do about 3 pattern rows of a lace shrug. That was definitely NOT the right environment for lace knitting! But the fans did appreciate the hand-knit Redskins sweater I was wearing (gift from mom years ago!).

Great question, and nice blog (I have the same format on mine: www.knits-n-things.blogspot.com)!!

The strangest place I knitted was in Universal Studios. As far as I knew, I was the only one knitting in the park those 2 days.

I knit during a jousting tournament at a Renaissance Festival.

I knit in McDonald's or KFC while waiting for my daughter to finish eating. I do bring my knitting to the clinic when I have a doctor's appointment, but I can't say I would have the cahonies to knit while getting my yearly exam, like one of your commenters. Ho-lee!

Great question!!
All of you should come by and submit a photo of you knitting in these strange places for the "knitting in the wild" photo contest HERE.
There is even a category reserved specifically for knitting at sporting events. Come win fabulous knitting-related prizes!
I think the craziest place I've knitted was at the Mayan ruins of Tulum in Mexico.

Mariner's Game. But now I don't think I'm too weird after reading these comments.

On the beach in November, wearing woollen trousers, lots of sweater, a knitted hat and a dinghy suit (all in one waterproof) to keep out the wind - while my darling was whizzing around kite buggying, the waves were splashing, wind howling and birds noisy overhead. It was fantastic!

last week - on a plane. The flight attendent kept asking me 'are you done yet?' It was fun. I've never knitted while sitting in a hunk of metal hurtling through the sky over the ocean before. Actually I don't think I've knitted in any kind of vehicle before.

I've knit during a Braves' game, movies, restaurants, church, and in pre-op before a surgical procedure earlier this year. It calms me, what can I say? (I have an aunt who once "air-smoked" her way through a procedure when told she was not allowed to light up.)

I don't while riding my mountain bike -- I don't have an actual death wish -- but I have been know to pull out my knitting at the trailhead wile waiting on the rest of the gang, as seen in this

I've knit while floating in the pool, I placed my yarn in a baggie just in case!

I cast on and knit half a sock while watching my kids ride very scary rides at the Barnstable County Fair--and I always bring knitting to the movies that my children want to see (Over the Hedge was horrible!).

Okay, I'll be the first horrible person to admit that I have knit while driving. In my defense, it was a really straight, really long, really boring stretch of interstate. And I'm very good with my knees.

Good question!

Although I have never knit at a baseball or football game, i have been known to knit at cricket and Australian Rules Football games - but only during breaks in play!

The usual place is on the bus, for obvious reasons. I got in a, erm, "altercation" once because of it: the parents objected to my telling their 3-yr-old not to play with the emergency exit. I should, apparently, have told THEM to tell her. They were too busy with their video games to watch the child, y'see, but still didn't want me telling THEM how to parent. Yeesh.

The oddest place? Roller Derby. The bouncer was hesitant about the needles -- give him credit, though: the program specifically forbids "pointy sticks." He let me in when a Roller Girl confirmed that the TSC lets 'em on planes. Go Rat City!

I also have to admit to about six inches of a basic hat during a play. Oh, and another hat during a Continuing Medical Education conference (six credit-hours, thankyouverymuch). Also, a meeting on shipping hazardous materials and one on budgeting for clinical research. Oh, and a bookstore.

Fun question: thanks!

Well, I don't think the place was wacky as much as the situation. I took my knitting to a bar to visit with my mom. There weren't but 5 or 6 people there, but SHE was so embarrassed that I was knitting. Even the bartender commented that she loved to knit and crochet. Mom just thought it was horrible and asked that I not bring it again. lol Nice to know that I can pay my mom back for all those times she embarrassed me!

I'm thinking that the weirdest place I've knit is on a plane from Chicago to Spokane, WA. I was holding my 2-month-old daughter and nursing her, and I decided to finish a hat I was making, too.

It was wonderful!

I also regularly knit while I nurse my baby. There's nothing like knitting and nursing to lower your blood pressure and stress level. Just heavenly!

Couple of places:
Over the summer some friends wanted to head to a movie and being a simple project I brought my WIP a blanket. I didn't realize that super cute boys would be there, but decided that if a cute boy couldn't handle my knitting he wasn't that cute. So I sat down in the row next to said hot boy and pulled out my knitting. He looked at me with that WTF is she doing look and then started laughing.
A couple of months later my friend and I got a phone call to come drag some boys away from a party because they were a bit to drunk to get home without getting in trouble on our college campus. Upon our arrival the boys weren't ready to leave so I sat my sober butt down on the couch and pulled out my scarf exchange scarf. I knit and knit, completely ignored by the inebriated people at the party. All of a sudden the cute boy from the movie theater came over and sat down. I was expecting some witty comment, but instead he took my knitting and knit a row. From then on I was known among that group of friends as "Knits".
